Parent of autistic child reports progress with NAET

naetA blogger who calls herself “Muckraking Maven” has taken the plunge and started NAET treatments for her autistic son. Her husband thought she was crazy. But she evaluated the study showing that NAET has helped autistics, talked to parents of autistics who had been helped by NAET, and embarked.

Of course you know I also embarked on NAET for my two Aspies. My 25-year-old daughter “Shannon” has recovered from her Asperger’s, and is making her way into normal life. My 20-year-old son “Mike” is doing well in many, many ways. These changes occurred after at least a year of NAET treatments.

Muckraking Maven also has some great news to report. Check out her post, complete with videos.

Correlation between autism rates and amounts of aluminum from vaccines

A year ago I reported on a Canadian study from the University of British Columbia that found strong correlation between autism rates and vaccination with vaccines containing aluminum, which is most childhood vaccines. I predicted that vaccine advocates would ignore it.

That certainly seems to have been the case, as articles continue to be written smearing vaccine questioners.  But I was glad to see a recent Internet article by Chris D. Meletis, N.D., a naturopathic doctor, continuing to question aluminum in vaccines. In The Whole Health Insider this month, she (he?) continued the argument about toxins like aluminum contributing to or causing autism, and added another twist: they seem to cause Alzheimer’s, too.

So, how do adults get aluminum exposure?

Daily, we’re exposed to aluminum from additives in commercially prepared foods, drinking water, sunscreens and deodorants. Like those for children, vaccines for adults can also expose us to aluminum. The amount of aluminum in vaccines can vary depending on the storage container. Storing vaccines in glass containers can up the aluminum content by 200 times compared to storing vaccines in plastic containers. (Aluminum leeches from the glass into the solution during autoclaving or storage.)

Small amounts of aluminum are absorbed into the circulation, crossing into the blood-brain barrier and accumulating in neurons of the brain regions vulnerable to Alzheimer’s damage. In this way, with advancing age, aluminum builds up in the brain and in the neurons.

A simpler Yasko protocol: eat veggies?

The Yasko protocol for treating people with autism isn’t easy to do. What if there were a way to simply eat the right foods and do the same job?

With the Yasko protocol, you have to get a whole long list of supplements, many of them obscure, and then you have to somehow figure out which ones are helpful.  The whole point is to provide support for processes that go on in the mitochondria, or energy factories, in every cell of the body. Something has caused those processes to go awry, probably exposure to too many toxins, more than the individual’s body can get rid of naturally. (We live in a sea of toxins. If you think the government is protecting us from chemicals, you are wrong.)

There’s an MD who’s successfully treating not autism but multiple sclerosis in herself by eating the right foods. So, how is that relevant? Here’s how: through her diet she is supporting the mitochondrial processes, same thing Yasko’s protocol does.

I don’t know if you’ve noticed, but alongside the autism epidemic there seems to be a marked increase in a variety of other conditions: allergies, athsma, multiple sclerosis, Parkinsons, ALS, and so on. It’s very evident to someone who has lived 60 years, as I have. The world used to be different. What if supporting the mitochondrial processes though food or supplements worked to help people fight all these diseases of the immune system and neurological system?

So, what does that have to do with you, my readers? Well, if you are wishing the Yasko protocol was easier and cheaper to implement, you could try the diet of Terry Wahls, MD.  Through simply eating a prescribed set of mostly organic vegetables, she has delivered herself from crippling multiple sclerosis. Now she can walk, run, and ride a bicycle. Before, she couldn’t even sit up in her wheelchair. She’s eating at least three cups of certain organic fruits and vegetables at each meal, plus selected protein sources. Grains are minimized or eliminated. It’s a variation of the “paleo diet,” eaten by healthy hunter gatherers.

Environmental contaminants are to blame for autism

I have been convinced for a while now that a variety of environmental contaminants are to blame for the autism epidemic. (Think it’s questionable whether there’s an epidemic? Read here.)

For years, the research money chased the hypothesis that autism is genetic, and looked for the genes. Well, in some cases, it is genetic. But there’s no such thing as an epidemic that’s genetic. Think about it. It’s a contradiction in terms. If you go back a generation or two, you still have the same genes, but not the epidemic, because the way we define the word epidemic: it’s an event that’s catastrophic.

Now research money is flowing toward some limited environmental hypotheses, and there are starting to be some results. I believe that the autistic individual’s system cannot process toxins very normally, causing a buildup of toxins that eventually causes big problems. Detox is a big part of treatment, or should be.

Now, if you’re me, you’re trying to protect your kids from toxins. The FDA and the EPA certainly aren’t; they’ve been bought by the big companies and associations with big bucks. How else to explain that it’s perfectly fine and legal for your dentist to fill your kid’s mouth with mercury?

One big way is to provide your family with carbon-filtered drinking water. The EPA provides limits on many toxins in our water supply, but some amounts of toxins are allowed. And that’s just the toxins the EPA has decided to regulate. There are many, many more that it ignores. We are actually living in a toxic soup. The government should be protecting us but isn’t.

I decided to get a home water filter three or four years ago, and did some research on the best ones. I found Multipure, a company in Nevada that makes its filters here in the U.S. to exacting quality standards and gives them a warranty for life. We’ve been enjoying our Multipure filtered water. I wanted to let you know about it in case you were interested in checking this out too.

Former CDC head explains autism-vaccine link

In this 2008 video, the head of the CDC admits that people with genetic mitochondrial dysfunction can become autistic after vaccination. But she then dances around the subject, and we wonder whether we heard her right.

Funny thing, this mitochondrial dysfunction isn’t as rare as she wishes it were. The Yasko protocol uses genetic testing to identify people with genetic mitochondrial dysfunction, for one thing, and suggests supplements that provide missing inputs for the mitochondrial processes that aren’t working right. (Mitochondria are little energy factories in each cell.) A recent study concludes that autism spectrum disorders and mitochondrial dysfunction are linked.

(Guess what, this head of the CDC, Julie Gerberding, has left that job and is now president of vaccines at Merck.)

Research on environmental autism causes finds link to fevers in pregnancy

A link between fever during pregnancy and autism in the child?

I am thrilled to report that there is more research going on now into possible environmental causes of autism. (That’s environmental as opposed to solely genetic, when we all know no epidemic can have solely genetic causes.)

Some researchers at UC Davis’ MIND Institute recently published their findings in the Journal of Autism and Developmental Disorders. They enrolled about 1000 children in a study, about half of them on the autism spectrum, some more with developmental delays, and the remaining as normal controls. Interviewing the mothers, they discovered a significant correlation between maternal fevers and autism in the children. Amazingly enough, the correlation nearly vanished if the mother with a fever took a fever-reducing medication such as ibuprofen or Tylenol. In other words, reducing the fever removes the risk.

Now, let’s think about this a bit.  I suspect that pregnant women have had fevers for about as long as the human race has been here. So why do their children become autistic now, when 50 years ago there were essentially no autistic children (besides my brother, who seemed unique).  What’s different now?  Interesting question to ponder!!

Treating autism and schizophrenia with antibiotics? And it works???

There’s some buzz going around the autism community now about a correlation found between treating bacterial infections with antibiotics and improving autism.

“This correlation, which is based on more than one hundred children of European origin, naturally does not prove a causal relationship. However, a therapy first started by a group of independent clinicians and now performed in conjunction with laboratory observations reinforces the idea that systemic bacterial infections play a role in the genesis of symptoms of autism.” In 60 percent of cases, long-term treatment with antibiotics brought significant improvement in autism symptoms, and in some cases even made them go away completely.

The study was made by a Nobel-laureate scientist, Luc Montagnier, MD.

A fascinating article discussing some of his findings also mentions that some schizophrenics found relief from psychotic symptoms when treated with a simple, cheap antibiotic–for acne. Minocycline.

How have we been manipulating the immune system a lot lately? Through vaccines. Could these be part of the story? We really don’t understand how the body works, that’s for sure. Read more here.

Italian court declares a vaccine caused autism in 1 case

An Italian judge has sided with the parents in a case where the MMR vaccine stood trial for causing autism and 100 percent disability in a child. Apparently the child became sick the same day as taking the vaccine and never recovered.

The U.S. news media has failed to pick up on this news, while the Italian newspaper scolded the judge for encouraging measles epidemics.

Where is investigative journalism? If investigative journalism were functioning in this age of the waning newspaper, a reporter could make it very clear that the question of vaccines causing autism has not been proven one way or the other, but a British researcher, Andrew Wakefield, has been vilified beyond all reason. Instead, the media is parroting what the vaccine makers want to hear. Huge pharmaceutical companies are shielded by liability laws on vaccines and are generating more and more of them, while convincing those on review boards that the benefits outweigh the risks.

Studies do seem to show that the measles vaccine in the MMR does not cause autism, and that the mercury that used to be prevalent in vaccines does not cause autism. These results are in dispute by knowledgeable scientists. And there are no other studies that show that vaccines are safe. So what about the aluminum in the vaccines? A study found a correlation there. And requiring too many, too soon?  If you let your kids be vaccinated on schedule, you’re participating in a vast experiment. And when bad things happen, you may get tarred and feathered.

Look at who’s making the money!

Google translation ( a little rough, but you can get the idea):

Autism. Court of Rimini: “Blame the vaccine.” Ministry ordered to pay compensation

The court granted the appeal by parents of a child who, according to the prosecution, would become autistic after vaccination against measles, mumps and rubella. Asked for compensation to the Ministry of Health. Sites, FIMMG, FIMP and Sip: “Judgment based on false science.”

The vaccine in question is the one against measles, mumps and rubella. According to the parents, in fact, the symptoms of autism in their child would have arisen just after inoculation. Even the same day, as stated in the judgment. Returning dall’Auls of Riccione, March 26, 2004, the child would begin to show worrisome symptoms (diarrhea and nervousness), while between 2004 and 2005 would have appeared signs of severe psychological and physical discomfort to the recognition, August 31, 2007, total and permanent disability to 100%. Whether this was due to vaccinations you practice the specialist Niglio already stated in June 2008 and to confirm it arrived a year later, the specialist Montanari.

That this condition was due “with reasonable scientific probability” to the administration of the vaccine MPR occurred at the ASL in Riccione was then the medical-legal evaluation of the auxiliary, that judges must be upheld. Established, therefore, that the child has been harmed by the irreversible complications due to vaccination, the court ordered the Ministry of Health to pay the compensation.

The judge, according to these experts, should have “apparently” based on “what is published, now 14 years ago, the Lancet, and subsequently withdrawn by the obvious lack of foundation of what was initially proposed by a group of British researchers.”

The known medical journal Lancet has officially withdrawn because the study on possible links between autism and MMR trivalent vaccine. The article, published in 1998 and written by British doctor Andrew Wakefield, was due to a long scientific dispute lasted almost 12 years. Wakefield claimed that the vaccine was due to intestinal infections, in turn linked to Kanner’s syndrome. His claims were discredited by the scientific world, and were at the base of one of the most important disputes in the history of medicine: “Unfortunately – says the Scientific Board – the false thesis proposals led to a strong decrease in the number of vaccinations in the United States, in Great Britain and other parts of Europe, with the result, in many cases disastrous, a sudden increase of cases of measles and its complications, including several cases of encephalitis and death. “

Our toxic environment

The media are finally beginning to make a connection between the unbridled use of toxins in our environment and autism. One catalyst is a book, Brita Belli’s The Autism Puzzle, consists of a “terrifying look at the chemicals we eat, drink and breathe” which is “guaranteed to make your hair stand on end,” according to writer Eleanor J. Bader at

Worried about 1 in 88 children with autism now? You should be. Belli traced geographical clusters of autism cases and found higher incidence near sources of environmental pollution. “Research, Belli writes, ‘made a solid case for the fact that toxins in combination can have a unique impact on the way brains develop. It is likely not one bodily insult that’s driving up [autism] cases, but a number of contaminants and exposures acting in concert.’”

So, you may have been thinking that the laws of the United States were protecting you from environmental toxins. This is not the case.

“That there are approximately 1,300 Superfund sites on the National Priorities List—200 of them in New Jersey, the state with the highest autism rates—should both give us pause and make us furious since we know who is responsible for fouling the air, water and soil—unscrupulous businesses.”

Well, I think that businesses will do what the law allows them to do, because they are competing against other businesses doing that too. So what needs to change is the law, currently “toothless.”

“The Toxic Substances Control Act was first passed in 1976 and has remained essentially unchanged—that is, toothless–for 36 years. When the Act passed Congress it grandfathered in 62,000 chemicals, in essence giving a free pass to known toxins such as trichloroethylene and BPA.

“To remedy this, Senator Frank Lautenberg has introduced the Safe Chemicals Act (S. 847), which would, for the first time, require industry to provide information on the health and safety of chemicals in order for them to be introduced or remain on the market. It would further allow the EPA to take immediate action on hazardous chemicals including lead, mercury and flame retardants.”

You can let your senators know that you want them to support this act. This website will help you contact your senators.

Things need to change at the FDA and EPA to keep our kids safe

Here is what I wrote a few days ago to Sen. Roy Blunt, who’s on the Senate Agriculture Committee and therefore has some influence over the EPA and FDA. He is also a senator from my state.

Hi Roy,
I wanted to continue to press you for change in the way that chemicals are permitted into our environment. Did you know that a human fetus is exposed to 100 times as many chemicals now as 50 years ago? Environmental exposure to chemicals (for genetically susceptible individuals) is surely the cause of the autism epidemic. It must be touching your family as well as mine. And it’s getting worse and worse, a 78 percent increase in the past five years according to Dr. Mercola.

An article by a respected doctor from Utah caught my eye. Utah has the highest autism rate in the nation, and the drinking water contains a lot of mercury, said Dr. Brian Moench. Dr. Muench blames toxins for the autism epidemic and for the honeybee die-off. Apparently some studies are showing that new insecticides are to blame for the disoriented and dying honeybees. As a member of the agriculture committee I am sure you are aware that our food supply depends on pollinators.

Please take a look at this article.

And also, please do something. I am particularly distressed because I hear from people through my blog who are uneducated and don’t have any idea what to do for their autistic children. You, as the face of our government, are not protecting them. Or me either.
