This is a wonderful set of three slim books by Danika Cooley that will help your family understand some Old-Testament hints of New-Testament Jesus. You can read these books about the Exodus as part of family devotions, telling the stories of who Moses was, what his story showed, and why.
These are not fictionalized “you are there” stories, but rather simple narratives with some black and white illustrations. In the first book Who Was Moses? author Danika Cooley dives right in to the background of his story. How did the Chosen People get to Egypt? What was their life like there? Who was Moses’ family, and how did he become a prince of Egypt? and more and more, clear to the end of his life at the edge of the Promised Land.
Next, What Was The Tabernacle? Here the author shows all the amazing ways that the furnishings of this portable temple pointed to the coming of Jesus. It’s a great mixture of Old and New Testament learning, made just right for young people to understand. This is something you won’t find in your average children’s Bible.
Finally, Why Did The Exodus Happen? goes into depth on the plagues, the deliverance at the Red Sea, wandering in the desert, rebellion, Ten Commandments, and the purpose of the law–to point to the need for a savior. It frames the entire story with meaning for us in our culture.
The author has given us a lovely gift in these books, Who What Why for Moses. She gives a simple way to make all these connections for our kids. Highly recommended. Five stars *****
